About OCCO

Orange Coast Christian Outreach (OCCO) is a non-profit ministry of volunteers that reach out together in love and unity to our friends, family, neighbors and co-workers with the Good News that Jesus Christ changes lives.

OCCO mission is to change lives one story at a time, as ordinary people share extraordinary stories of amazing or difficult circumstances they’ve encountered and a message of how Jesus Christ changed their life.

Most events are held in homes, theaters, universities and community centers in Orange County.  It is a great opportunity to bring friends, family, co-workers and neighbors that may not go to church to hear about the power of Jesus freeing people from a broken, shameful or fearful life. These events are held each year in March, they are free of charge and the calendar of events is published on the OCCO web-site each year in January.

The Orange Coast Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast kicks off the week full of events.  Local Mayors declare a day of prayer in their city. National leaders from military, business, professional sports and other fields share their personal story of a life change through Jesus Christ.  This event attracts hundreds of local business professionals, community, government and Christian leaders. Past speakers include Gov. Mike Huckabee, Angels Baseball Legend Tim Salmon, President Reagan’s son Michael Reagan, Focus on the Family CEO Jim Daly and

Recent speakers have included Lt. Col. Steve Russell, who led the team who captured Saddam Hussein, Anne Hjelle who survived a mountain lion attack while biking, Cindy Minshall who escaped from the Seal Beach hair salon while eight people were murdered, Shad Vickers who learned to forgive his father who killed his mother, and others, who have overcome crippling accidents, loss of children, and tragic abuse.

OCCOs history starts in 1964, with a “Think and Pray” group which began to reach out to others through Bible studies and testimony meetings in homes throughout the Newport Harbor area and in 1964 this group organized the first Christian Leadership Week and Newport Beach Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, an important community outreach.  In 1965, the Spirit of God was working in this same group to create a new local church, now known as Mariners Church.  OCCO was first led by Lloyd Johnson, then Vic Sherritt, then Gordon Bowley, now former Newport Harbor Christian Leadership Week grew to a dozen additional cities and over twenty-five churches participate and the name changed to Orange Coast Christian Outreach, Inc. a non-profit 501(c) (3) under the current leadership of Pamela Curry.
